WAJO - Kabupaten Wajo punya lahan tanaman kakao yang luas, bahkan jadi salah satu daerah penyumbang devisa ekspor. Sayangnya, produksi terus turun dari tahun ke tahun karena berbagai kendala. Bupati Wajo, Amran Mahmud, ingin memperbaiki itu.
Salah satu terobosan yang diharapkan bisa mengembalikan kejayaan kakao Wajo adalah Sekolah Lapang Budi Daya Kakao. Program ini baru saja dibuka oleh Amran Mahmud di Desa Tanrongi, Kecamatan Pitumpanua, Senin (12/7/2021).
Sekolah Lapang Budi Daya Kakao adalah program Pemerintah Provinsi Sulawesi Selatan. Rencananya akan dilaksanakan di 10 kecamatan selama 6 kali pertemuan mulai 12 Juli hingga 8 Agustus mendatang.
Amran Mahmud sangat mengapresiasi dan menyambut baik Sekolah Lapang Budi Daya Kakao. Dia berharap lewat langkah ini produksi dan kualitas mutu biji kakao meningkat.
"Saya berharap para petani yang menjadi peserta bisa menimba ilmu dan mengajarkan ke petani lainnya sehingga kejayaan kakao di Kabupaten Wajo bisa kembali," harapnya.
